PRODUCT LIABILITY

A 19-year-old University of West Virginia football player was killed when a tire de-treaded on his Ford Explorer, resulting in a rollover of the vehicle. The family of the deceased young man and their Florida attorneys hired Jimmy Franklin to bring suit against Ford Motor Company and Firestone/Bridgestone. With the assistance of Dan Snipes and another partner, the case was prosecuted in Federal Court on defective tire and an unreasonably unstable vehicle theories with Jimmy Franklin acting as lead counsel. The case was settled on the eve of trial for a very large confidential sum. A young woman poured a commercial drain cleaner into a floor drain, which immediately resulted in a violent eruption. A 25-year-old young man, married and the father of two children, purchased a Go-Kart type recreational vehicle advertised for off-road recreational use. The vehicle on an off-road trail in a national park, flipped rear-end over front-end, ejecting the driver forward and out of the vehicle, due to the absence of a seat belt. A 34-year-old worker at an industrial plant lost his right ring finger after an unguarded gun drill machine clamped and drilled his right hand. TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASHES

A tractor -trailer with faulty brakes struck a vehicle driven by a grandmother with her seven and eight year old grandsons as passengers on a four-lane highway in Dublin, Georgia. The collision resulted in a fire that killed the grandmother and young grandsons. The parents of the boys and a Savannah law firm hired our firm to bring suit against the trucking company, driver, and a sign company, all of whom blamed the grandmother for the accident. The case settled at mediation on the eve of trial for a large confidential amount.

A couple was returning from dinner in Statesboro to their home in Candler County when an 18-wheeler tractor unit crossed the center line, crashing into the couple's vehicle which was being driven by the wife. The wife was killed and the husband suffered serious injuries. The husband hired our firm to represent his interest. The driver of the 18-wheeler tractor unit had been drinking at the time of the collision and he was driving on a suspended license. The case was settled for a large sum prior to suit being filed. A log truck completely blocked a state highway on a curve in Jeff Davis County, Georgia. As a young mother rounded the curve while driving to college in Douglas, she struck the front of the truck. AUTO CRASHES

A 16-year-old migrant worker was killed in an automobile collision in which fault was highly disputed. The investigating officers, including the Georgia State Patrol and the Sheriff's Department, concluded that our client was at fault. We employed an accident reconstruction specialist who determined from the physical evidence that the fault was on the adverse party. The case was tried in Federal Court, resulting in a verdict for our client of $500,000.

A Chatham County Board of Education employee was driving a commercial truck when he struck a Ford Ranger broadside on Highway 21 in Garden City, Georgia, causing the pickup to roll over and partially eject the driver. The injured driver of the Ford Ranger initially hired a Savannah lawyer who subsequently abandoned the case when the Board of Education filed a motion to dismiss the case. After at least three other law firms turned down the case, the self-employed mechanic hired our firm, and the case was settled at mediation after resolution of the motion to dismiss in favor of the injured mechanic.

PROPANE GAS EXPLOSION

A young couple visited their soon-to-be-occupied apartment for a pre-move inspection. When someone attempted to light a cigarette, a tremendous explosion totally demolished the house, causing severe second and third degree burns to both husband and wife. Our firm was able to establish the cause of the explosion was due to a gas company employee failing to cap an open line on the premises. Suit was filed against the gas company and settled for a confidential seven figure sum before trial.

The day after a migrant family moved into a rented home, the home was destroyed by a propane gas explosion as a result of a failure by the gas company to seal off an open line in the house. The mother and two children were burned. The family hired our firm. The case was tried to a jury in Federal Court. A verdict was returned in favor of the plaintiffs in excess of $600,000.
